National Honor Society (NHS)
Mason County Eastern Schools is proud to be a member of the National Honor Society, an organization which elevates the accomplishments of our high students who exemplify the best of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Our chapter is named after the esteemed Iva S. Calkins who taught middle school English for 29 years. Mrs. Calkins' teaching career spanned 45 years and MCE benefited greatly from her character, leadership, professionalism and service.
Membership is more than an honor. It incurs a responsibility and an obligation to demonstrate those outstanding qualities. Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 to be considered for membership. After an application process and consideration by our faculty council, a student may be inducted in the spring of the 10th grade year. Students who miss that window can be considered in their junior year. We encourage all students to strive for this prestigious accomplishment as it is one of the highest honors to be awarded to any high school student.
