BRETHREN — Mason County Eastern’s boys track and field team won Wednesday’s Western Michigan D League Jamboree with 178 points.
It was the second victory in three jamborees for the Cardinals who had four firsts and dominated with superior depth.
“We went this whole meet with only two (individual) firsts, but we pack in a lot of twos through sixes,” said Eastern coach Ben Knizacky, whose team will go into next week’s league championship meet in the driver’s seat.
Onekema was second with 155 points followed by Brethren with 88, Baldwin 42, Big Rapids Crossroads Academy 35, Pentwater 9 and Walkerville 4.
For MCE, Jordan Ely won the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 6 inches and Rellis Cormany won the 400-meter dash in 54.2 seconds.
Eastern also won the 3,200- and 1,600-meter relays. In the 3,200, the team of Chris Segelstrom, Nate Martin, Cory Jolly and Stephen Knizacky finished first in 9:08.0 and in the 1,600, Ryan Rybicki, Segelstrom, Ryan Norman and Jolly won in 3:48.0.
