Eastern track teams qualify seven for state meet

HOLTON — Mason County Eastern’s boys track and field team finished in a tie for fourth place Friday at the Division IV regional meet. Hesperia won the meet with 129 points followed by Ravenna with 120 and North Muskegon 98. Eastern and Saugatuck had 55 points each in the 14-team meet.
“We lost some boys tonight to baseball,” said Eastern coach Ben Knizacky. “It was a shame that we had to have a baseball game tonight and those boys missed their chance to compete in the regional meet.”
Eastern had two boys qualify for state. Senior Rellis Cormany won the 400-meter dash (53.4 seconds) and junior Kelly Lemire was second in the shot put (41 feet, 1/2 inch).
