Minus six team members, Eastern second
CUSTER - After winning the first Western Michigan D League Jamboree last week, the Mason County Eastern track and field team came up 15 points short in the second one on Wednesday. Onekama-Bear Lake nosed out the Cardinals, 168-153.
"Yeah, we fell short this time," said Eastern coach Ben Knizacky. "Onekama had one of their stronger athletes back while we had six guys missing because of eligibility. We didn't win a single individual event. We have a third-through-sixth kind of team. We have a bunch of kids that are working hard."
Eastern was first in the 800-meter relay with a team of Ryan Rybicki, Cory Jolly, Brian Norman and Rellis Cormany in a time of 1 minute, 44 seconds.
Cormany, a senior, also took second place in the 100 (11.38) and 400 (54.6). Another Cardinal Senior, Justin Gwilliams, also placed second in the long jump (17-10 1/2) and the 200 (24.8).
