Mason County Eastern Vs. Muskegon Catholic in girls softball

Custer- The hits didn't come for Mason County Eastern, especially in the second game of Wednesday's softball double-header with visiting Muskegon Catholic Central, and the Cardinals wound up splitting.

Eastern won the opener, 13-5, but dropped the nightcap, 7-6, in eight innings.

"We weren't very aggressive at the plate tonight and obviously we'll have to work on that," said Eastern coach Bill Cole, whose team only had four hits in the opener and four hits in the nightcap.

:"I thought we had a pretty good hitting team," added Cole. "I figured we'd have 11 or 12 hits and strike out three or four times. We've kinda of got it vice versa."

In game one, Kara Bryan started and was relieved in the late innings by Stephanie Eichmeier. Bryan struck out 12 and walked eight while allowing one hit and two runs.

Offensively, Heather Salmon was two for four with a triple and Nikki Kolean and Bryan each had a hit.

"We only had for four hits but we scored 13 runs," said Cole. "We walked 10 times and struck out 12 times. Kara threw good game for us."

Bryan went the distance in the nightcap, striking out 12 more batters. She walked four and permitted only four hits. Of Catholics seven runs, only one was earned.

Kolean had two hits to lead the team offensively.

Eastern is now 3-1 and travels to Frankfort for an invitational tournament on Saturday.
