FRANKFORT - Mason County Eastern junior pitcher Kara Bryan went the distance both games Saturday to lead her Cardinals to the championship of the Frankfort Invitational .
"When Mel (Stickney, the Cardinal's senior pitcher) got hurt, everyone thought we would struggle," said Eastern coach Bill Cole. "But Kara has been outstanding for us."
Eastern, now 5-1 on the season, won the championship by defeating Frankfort 8-3 in the title game.
Bryan allowed five hits, two walks and one hit batsman while striking out five in that contest.
Centerfielder Nikki Kolean led the Cardinal attack by hitting a double and two singles

Also, second baseman Crisha Barrett rapped out a pair of singles. Shortstop Courtney Harris laced a triple.
In their opening game, Eastern defeated Sault Ste. Marie 9-2.
Bryan again was the winning pitcher. She worked all six frames, giving up just one hit, but walking six and hitting a batter. She fanned 10.
Kolean paced the Eastern bats again. This time she hit a triple, a double and a single for the victorious Cardinals.
