Eastern sweeps Hart in softball twinbill
HART- Mason County Eastern mercied Hart, 21-5, in the opening game and then scored a 17-10 victory in the nightcap of Monday's season-opening softball doubleheader at Hodges Field.
Kara Bryan pitched and won both games for Eastern. In the opener, she allowed five hits, struck out nine and walked three. Of Hart's five runs, three were earned. Rachelle Eisenlohr took the loss in the four inning contest.
Hart's hits were by Crystal Jefferies, who had two doubles, and Valerie Switaj had one.
Eastern was led by Nikki Kolean, who doubled, tripled and scored three times. Crisha Barrett was three for four with a home run and she scored three runs, Courtney Harris had two doubles and Janelle Porter, Jessica Bruesch and Heather Salmon also had two hits apiece.
"Hart has a long fence and we hit the ball quite far," said Eastern coach Bill Cole. "And Kara didn't throw badly. She struggled a little bit in the second game. She wasn't all over the place, she wasn't missing by much. All in all, I was pretty pleased with how the girls played."
In the second game, Eastern spotted Hart an early 10-5 lead before rallying. Bryan gave up six hits, fanned eight and walked 11. Of the 10 runs she allowed, four were earned according the Cole.
"We actually hit the ball pretty well in the second game," said Hart coach Ron Williamson.
