MCC opens soccer season with 3-0 win over Eastern
Custer- Mason County Central freshman Casey Leese scored two goals and Finnish foreign exchange student Jenni Salmi had two assists as the Spartans won their season opener 3-0 Tuesday over the Mason County Eastern Cardinals.
Central's other goal was scored by Ally Austin on a 30 yard shot.
"Anytime you can start off with a win that is nice, said Spartan coach Jack Stibitz. "But we still have things to work on that is for sure."
The Spartans led 1-0 at the half. They then scored two quick goals in the second half.
"Our defense played well all game long," added Stibitz. "I don't know if we allowed a shot on goal."
Stibitz praised the play defensive play of Kaitlyn Yarbrough, Chelsea Leonard, Amy Schuitema and Andrea Allen.
"We had six or seven girls who have not played much soccer," noted Stibitz. "And they came out and played quite well."
